Originally from North Dakota, Styles Sass received his Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Iowa. After completing his final semester abroad in the Basque Country, he remained in Northern Spain, where he pursued his interests in literature and film while working as a language teacher. Moving to Germany, he was awarded several writing fellowships and published a collection of poetry and prose pieces titled, More Than These Few Days. He holds a Master’s degree in American Studies from the University of Heidelberg, where he also wrote an interdisciplinary doctoral dissertation titled Swaying the Nation: Campaign Narratives in the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election. His research interests include electoral politics and representation of violence in American fiction. He currently runs the writing center at the Heidelberg Center for American Studies and works as a writer, editor, translator, and teacher in Stuttgart.
